ECE R14.09 testing subjects the seat frame and its mounting points to forces that simulate the loads experienced during a serious collision. The tests measure whether the anchorages can withstand:

  • Longitudinal forces (simulating a frontal impact) applied at 20 times the weight of the seat
  • Rearward forces to ensure the seat can handle impacts from behind
  • Seatbelt anchorage loads to confirm the belt mounting points will hold under crash conditions

The seat frame, floor mounts, and belt anchorages are all assessed as a complete system. A failure in any single component means the entire assembly fails.
